LEADING EMPLOYERS 2026: Stadt Heilbronn Ranks Among Germany’s TOP 1% of Employers.

City of Heilbronn – a diverse employer, a sustainable future

The City of Heilbronn is one of the largest employers in the Heilbronn-Franconia region. More than 3,500 employees are engaged across a wide range of professional fields – from traditional public administration and technical and skilled trades to social services. Each year, over 90 apprentices and students begin their careers in around 30 different professions.

We view change as an opportunity: together with all employees, we shape transformation in an innovative and flexible way. The breadth of our responsibilities and projects is one of our key strengths and defines our day-to-day work. Values such as respectful communication, collegiality and teamwork are at the heart of our organisational culture.

Diversity is part of our DNA. As a signatory to the Diversity Charter, we stand for lived diversity and are actively committed to the community. Our work is characterised by responsible and economically sustainable action. The wellbeing and health of our employees are a top priority; therefore, we promote equal opportunities, support the reconciliation of family and working life (certified by the berufundfamilie audit), encourage occupational health protection, and enable flexible and mobile working models.

Heilbronn has been designated European Green Capital 2027 by the European Commission, recognising the city as a pioneer in environmental and climate protection. The objective of the city administration is to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

The City of Heilbronn ensures the provision of essential public services for more than 130,000 residents and therefore depends on a well-qualified workforce. Labour shortages are making the recruitment and retention of employees increasingly important. The annually published Leading Employer Study by the Institute for Research and Data Aggregation offers a holistic, data-driven perspective on employer attractiveness. It combines empirical analysis, market trends and employee perspectives, providing organisations with valuable guidance for developing a future-oriented, people-centred workplace culture. The City of Heilbronn uses this study to strengthen its attractiveness in the competition for skilled professionals. In addition, it helps to highlight existing strengths and to succeed in an increasingly competitive labour market.
